Cute new Sugar Soul summer hats have arrived! Handmade by Christine Svensson, these light cotton and linen hats will be perfect for all of the summer festivals coming up. Not to mention all of the hat weather we've been having.....rain, humidity, wind and sun all call for a good hat! Here are a few of the button cloches and bucket hats we have in the store and they all have pretty floral or plaid linings too.
After several customer requests, look what we have in.........Pyrrha!
Pyrrha was founded 17 years ago by Vancouver couple Danielle Wilmore and Wade Papin after they came across a box of 19th century wax seals, rich in natural beauty and symbolism. "Making jewelry out of them was inspired by a desire to give the fragile seals new life and permanence", says Danielle. "Because we live in such a throwaway society, it's necessary to create some things that can be kept", says Wade.
The wax seals are hand cast in reclaimed silver and bronze in the couple's studio in Vancouver. "We like to show the maker's hand and celebrate the flaws and original cracks in the waxes", says Wade. Each necklace comes with a card that tells you about the symbolism and meaning of the seal.
Bywa bags and belts are handmade in Vancouver from 100% repurposed leathers and fabrics. Designer Gwen Cornish handcrafts beautiful things out of the most sustainable materials available - stuff that's already here.
We have this skinny belt available in black, brown, red, grey and olive. They are one size fits all and can be worn many different ways.....
This wider wrap belt below is available in brown and it can be worn many different ways as well, including tight around the waist or loose around the hips. By playing around with one you're sure to discover several new options yourself.
You've probably heard of them, but have you tried them yet? Some of you have already told me they're your favourite jeans EVER. Besides looking great, these jeans have an incredible amount of stretch which makes them super comfortable. Fortunately, they also have incredible shape retention - so despite all that stretch they're not going to get all baggy and saggy on you. Made in Montreal from high quality denim, there is a style for everyone and you definitely don't have to do yoga to wear them! We have them available in capris as well as full length skinny, straight and boot cut styles, with more styles and sizes on the way. Come find your favourite!
After much deliberation (and changing my mind too many times to count) the decision has finally been made and we will be moving to 5th Street mid July! A huge thank you to all of you who offered your perspectives, opinions, and words of encouragement - your support has given me the courage to make the big move.
So if everything goes according to plan, our last day in the current location will be Saturday, July 14th, and we will re-open in our new home at 214 5th Street on Tuesday, July 17th. That's the space by Zocalos, current home of the Green Room - such a fantastic shop with wonderful owners who will definitely be missed downtown.
Because the new space will be larger, I would be interested in hearing from anyone who might like to share it. A complimentary business that doesn't need too much space could be a perfect match.......oh how we'd love to share with a good seamstress - in house alterations! - or maybe an artist of some sort who wants a small studio space? Please help spread the word and anyone interested can just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Onto other equally exciting news.......we received some new cinder + smoke pieces last week!
Loads of Ole Originals limited edition handprinted tees have also arrived. One of my favourite new styles is the octopus tee below. It features an octopus print by April Lacheur (the artist who created our tree logo for us when she used to live here in the Comox Valley).
Other new arrivals include Floating Gold Iceberg, Tonic, Togs, and Two of Hearts pieces, Sabrina Butterfly stretch linen capris, plus Flight Path belt buckles and leather dropped studs. See you soon!
